you have to love a girl who is such a good sport and will agree to a snowy photo shoot on a saturday afternoon , just because. it was -13 c with a wind chill of -25c when we took these.i am not sure how many minutes we were out there but it was me that had to run back to the van because my hands were screaming in pain and starting to freeze.snow pictures always look so quiet and romantic but the reality is quite different.thank-you Bronte for being willing to scream and laugh and then run for cover with me.

I had the most relaxing holiday. It is funny how removing yourself from your life , even a few city blocks , can allow you to forget , regroup and gain perspective. I spent an entire afternoon by the fire going over the Branding section of my redleafstudio workshop and making an inspiration board on Pinterest. I hope your Holidays provide some quiet moments.

it happens every year without fail and yet it still takes me by surprise. a few short days ago i went to bed on a chilly fall evening and woke up to a white world of blowing snow. more than most years , i was not mentally prepared for it. a half built house in the rigid cold is a depressing thing. last night i took solace in the remaining film from my summer roll.

Bradyn and Jesse chose to have a "first look" moment. i LOVE that. with our rain delayed schedual , i think it was extra important to have those few private moments together. after that we had the shortest , fastest group session ever, but when your group is all so fun and beautiful, my job is easy.

the day Bradyn, my beautiful niece and Jesse her fiance had planned for each other.
the weeks leading up to their day were wet, as is rained for record days in a row, as in flooding where there had never been before. when I threw open the curtains on my hotel room that morning I felt like I could touch the clouds and it was raining AGAIN. there were back-up plans at the ready but about noon it was decided that they would risk going ahead with there original dream of an outside ,evening wedding. as the day went on the sun came out and everything was warm and beautiful. we rolled up our pants, walked barefoot through soggy fields and loved every minute of it.

in the beginning of April there was still patches of snow on the ground , but the early spring day shone and the sun was warm as we took pictures at a spot down by the river. her dad had plowed it off for her special day, it was the place Dan had proposed, it was the place they wanted to document the beginning of their lives together. the girls gathered at Ashley's parents house in the morning, there was an abundance of good food , flowers, hair products , chatter and laughter as the got ready for Ashley and Dans wedding.

this is what i tell people

~ choose 2 outfits one dressy one casual

~layers and texture look great in an image

~ ladies , heels change your entire posture for the better , even if we are going to a field , wear heels!

~ accessorize scarves, necklaces, jacket sweaters, can be added and removed for different looks.

~ wear something that makes you feel good , it will show on your face.

it has happened to all of us, we saw that perfect lamp, dress , haircut, recipe,book ,wallpaper one day while we were having coffee and surfing the net and now we can't find it again. well as the saying goes now there is an " app " for that. pinterest is the latest web sensation and i have to say, i am going to love it. simply sign - up and start pining . the next time you see some thing you love or is " pinteresting" to you " pin it " and save it to your board. you can divide your boards into categories ex. home , hair, fashion or whatever you want to remember. brides it will be a great tool for wedding planning/ inspiration.

i am feeling a bit of dejavu' day. i so clearly remember sitting in the middle of the night with my Mom and some friends and watching Diana marry Charles , now in the blink of an eye i am planning to do an all-nighter with my girls to watch the next royal wedding. as a person who looks at a LOT of weddings these days i have high hopes for some new wedding dress trends to come out of this day. being much older than the last time i just hope i can stay awake!

my daughter has been anxiously awaiting the arrival of her new camera. she has been saving and planing for her graduation trip to Italy in the fall and wanted a good camera to take with her. it arrived this morning and i am going to pick her up from school and take her out for lunch and make opening it a special occasion. many years ago , after all my first camera changed my life!

i need to apologize, it seems my blog has been a bit of a mess lately. i have been making some changes to my html the last couple of months and i was doing it on my wonderful big I-MAC , what i didn't realize ( until a kind follower pointed it out ) was that on many of your screens the pictures were being cut off. ooops.. that is not a great look for a photography blog ! i think i have tidied up and corrected the problem.

i have also noticed that people are much more likely to comment on Facebook than on the blog , if that is your preference - fabulous - if there is a problem with the comment box let me know! and as always i love hearing from you.

i saw an interview with Anna Quindlen many years ago, she talked of how her friends marvelled at her children reading , she simply said , " look at your house, it has to be full of books and they have to see you be an avid reader" i had never really been conscious of it before but the very next time i tidied up the living room i realized, even with small children, a huge part of our mess was books.that hasn't changed over the years, every morning as i straighten the living room after everyone has gone for the day, the majority of the task is piling up the books and magazines and gathering up the cups from the drinks we enjoyed while lost in them.

i have been missing my 365 project lately , feeling uninspired and longing for an excuse to have my camera in my hands. i am a project oriented person , i need to have deadlines and goals but i don't have the time or desire this year for a complete 365. last night i revisited marta's blog and discovered she was doing a hue and texture project a simple ,weekly SOOC project and thought it was a perfect fit for me right now.

the snow is melting , i heard some birds singing yesterday and the brides are calling!

my finally exciting undertaking for 2011 is

juliannacollettphotography weddings

when i first began to immerse myself in digital photography , i quickly dismissed weddings

as something i would not do. memories of my own weddings and those i had known ,with LONG torture sessions with huge groups of wedding party and relatives ( images that would never see the light of day , much less be displayed) came to mind. as i began " blog stalking " , and learning i discover a that there was a very different trend in wedding photography out there, one that fit my style . there is a trend toward a more editorial/ lifestyle approach to weddings. the bride and groom as the main focus and models , the wedding party and the details ( so lovingly planned ) as the stage and compliment to their day. capturing the complete spirit of the day. i still remember the day when i first came across jessica kettle's blog. at 40 something , I thought this is how i want to shoot when i grow up! i loved her edit style and the ecscetic- the perfect balance between romantic and contemporary , vintage but edgy.

as i matured as a photographer i realized that i am a detail shooter , I approach each type of shoot

through the details and wedding are a detail feast

i will just be dipping my toes in these waters this summer as i have to balance this and our building project ( blogged previously) but i can't tell you how excited i am for what this summer holds!
